The University is named after three illustrious tribal leaders who mastered courage to put up valiant resistance against British imperialist oppression. On 30th June, 1885, Sidho Murmu and his brother Kanho, two great Santal rebel leaders mobilized ten thousand Santals in an uprising against British imperialist power and their Indian subordinates. The University pays rich tribute to the ever lasting memory of these martyrs who, by their patriotic valour had made the posterity indebted to them.
