Hyundai Motor forayed in India in the year 1996 and rolled out its very first Santro two years later. Hyundai Santro received unexpected response from Indian market in spite of its moderate appearance. The hatchback was initially launched as ‘Hyudai Atos’ in 1997 but in India it had the name Santro. Later in 2003, the South Korean auto major introduced upgraded version of Santro and called it as Hyundai Santro Xingthat repeated the same success story in India. The hatchback is marketed below Hyundai i10 in India while in other major markets, it has been discontinued to make space for the former car model. The small car has to compete with Maruti Zen Estilo, Maruti Wagon R, Chevrolet Spark and Fiat Palio Stile.
Lookwise, the Hyundai Santro looks ordinary but is designed well enough to attract small car lovers. The front fascia of the car comes with rectangular headlamps with chopped left corner. The front grille has got special three parallel body colour radiator grille that find centrally located Hyundai logo in chrome. The lower air intake cluster comes across the lower portion above the body colour bumper. This black out slot sports box-type design along with fake front fog lamp like moulding. The Hyundai Santro Xing gets black colour conventional ORVMs and same colour door handles and waistline moulding. The rear side view of the small car looks more appealing than the front one; it has vertically stacked tail lamps clusters, wider rear windshield, black sleek moulding on the body colour bumper and rear spoiler in top-end variant.
