Though, this is just my
basic/initial observation, and there are lot and lots of various
technical aspects you may need to look into before you choose which type
of blog you want to start.
I myself decided to start a blog in 2008. I was having zero knowledge on blogging and i heard from few friends that wordpress is very good and easy to start blogging with, and i started my first blog in Gujarati with wordpress.
Now, when i am at a stage that, I am looking for some earning along with my own domain, I am selecting blogger. Main reason is we can't link our own domain name with wordpress free of charge. We need to pay some 13$ per year if we want our own domain name with wordpress. Whereas blogger gives facility to link our domain with blogger without any additional charges. Which is important for me now, since I don't know if my blog will return me something or not.
But, i heard and experience that, wordpress is having much more plug-ins to impress a blogger and readers, also wordpress is having some technical scripts which helps your blog appear in google search listing easily.
Anyways, it's your own choice after studying full technical details before you start your blog
