India’s cricket selectors dropped an out-of-form Harbhajan Singh for the first two ODIs against England, slated for Oct 14 and 17, while giving maiden international call-ups to Karnataka medium-pacer Srenath Aravind and Punjab leg-spinner Rahul Sharma..
Vidharba pacer Umesh Yadav and Jharkhand speedster Varun Aaron also figure in the team,announced by the new Board of Control for Cricket in India secretary, Sanjay Jagdale, after a marathon meeting of the selection committee in Chennai, on Thursday.
The Mahendra Singh Dhoni-led squad has a predominantly young bowling attack, with Praveen Kumar the spearhead.

A tall legspinner capable of extracting extra bounce from pitches, Rahul Sharma made a name for himself with impressive performances for Pune Warriors in the 2011 IPL. He dismissed Sachin Tendulkar in Pune’s match against Mumbai Indians at the Wankhede Stadium and then had figures of 2 for 7 in the return fixture at the DY Patil Stadium. Those performances helped him find a place in the Indian ODI squad for the home series against England in October 2011.
Sharma had played for Deccan Chargers in the third season of the IPL, during which he was diagnosed with a facial nerve dysfunction that affected his vision. He worked with doctors in order to recover enough to return to cricket. He had made his first-class debut for Punjab in 2006, but had to wait till 2009 to play again. In the 2009-10 season, he took 13 wickets in seven games including a six-for against Railways.
